The Boat...

Under Sail

Lyric is a Caliber 40LRC, hull number #128.  We selected this model after many hours of reviewing the specifications on virtually all boats in the 39 to 42 foot range that would fit within our budget.  Then began the search for the actual boat.

We found our future boat in Connecticut, purchased her in December, 2004, and had her trucked to Rockport in early 2005.  She was in practically new condition, because of very light use by the original owners.  The installed equipment included the basic navigation systems plus VHF, but nothing required for long term cruising had been installed.

After leaving our jobs in early January, 2006, we moved aboard the boat in late January to begin the "fitting out" for our adventure.  Our additions included:

  • Atkins-Hoyle davits for transporting the dingy.
  • Xantrex MS-2000 Inverter/Charger.
  • Entec-West 4.2 KW diesel generator.
  • Installed a small Tappan® microwave oven (built-in).
  • Additional insulation was added to the refrigerator space along with a new partition for a seperate freezer compartment
  • Second Sea Frost® 12 v refrigerator unit with dual cold plates for the new freezer compartment.
  • Icom 802 Single Side Band (HF) radio with Practor IIe modem.
  • Second AGM 8D battery.
  • Xantrex battery monitor.
  • Little Wonder 200 modular water maker from Village Marine.
  • Primary anchor was upgraded to a 45 lb. CQR with 300 ft. of 3/8" BBB all chain rode.
  • New 35 lb. Delta anchor was added for the secondary with 50 ft. of 3/8" chain and 200 ft. 5/8 in. rope rode.
  • Safety netting was installed on the life lines to keep pets and gear on board.
  • Winslow six person life raft.
