The carvings were amazing. We looked but could not comprehend what they meant. After this visit, we invested in some reference books to give us an idea of the meanings. The ancient Mayans are fascinating. Look at the middle of this stellae; there is what appears to be a small child on a sword...we have no idea what this means.
